Solar PV and battery storage · East Yorkshire and the Humber

Home solar and batteries from local electricians.

Tokali is a small team of qualified electricians and solar installers based in Welton, East Yorkshire. The people who survey your house are the people who fit your system, and we keep our running costs low so our prices stay fair.

Services

What we fit

Every system is sized to your roof and your actual electricity use. We'd rather fit a smaller system that pays its way than sell you more panels than you need.

Solar panels with a battery

The full system. Panels on the roof, a hybrid inverter and a battery, so you can use your solar in the evening. In winter, the battery can top up on a cheap overnight rate.

  • Home survey and system design
  • Scaffold, panels and roof work
  • Inverter and battery wired in
  • DNO paperwork and full certification
  • App set up on your phone

Solar panels on their own

If the budget doesn't stretch to a battery yet, we fit the panels now with a battery-ready inverter, so adding one later is a simple job.

  • Home survey and system design
  • Scaffold, panels and roof work
  • Battery-ready inverter
  • DNO paperwork and full certification

A battery on its own

No panels needed. The battery charges overnight on a cheap off-peak tariff, then runs your home through the day and evening when electricity costs more. A good option if your roof isn't suited to solar.

  • Battery sized to how much you use
  • Set up to charge in your off-peak hours
  • Battery and inverter wired in
  • DNO paperwork done for you
  • No scaffold needed

A battery for panels you already have

Already got solar but sending most of it back to the grid? A battery keeps it for when you get home, and can charge off-peak too. We check your existing system first and tell you straight if it's worth it.

  • Check of your existing panels and inverter
  • Battery, plus a new inverter if yours can't take one
  • DNO paperwork done for you
  • No scaffold needed in most cases

EV chargers

A home charger that tops your car up from spare solar, or on a cheap overnight rate. It works best alongside panels and a battery.

  • EcoFlow and Sigenergy chargers
  • DC charging built into a SigenStor stack
  • Solar-aware and scheduled charging
  • Wired in and tested by us

How it works

From first call to switch-on

  1. Get in touch

Fill in our estimate form, or ring or email with your postcode and roughly what you pay for electricity each month.

  2. Home survey

We look at the roof, the loft, your fuse board and where the inverter and battery would go. Then we go through your bills with you.

  3. Your quote

A written quote with the system design, the exact kit, and a month-by-month estimate of what it should generate.

  4. Grid paperwork

We notify your network operator, or apply for approval first if your system needs it.

  5. Install

Scaffold up, panels on, inverter and battery wired in. Most homes take one to two days.

  6. Handover

We test everything, set up the app on your phone, and give you your certificates and the paperwork for export payments.

Products

The kit

A home system has three main parts. Here's what each one does and how they connect.

How solar panels, inverter, battery, home and grid connect DC AC charge and discharge export and import Solar panels on your roof Hybrid inverter in the garage or outside Battery for the evening Your home uses solar first The grid via your meter
Solar goes to your home first. Spare power charges the battery. Anything left after that is exported to the grid.

Generates

Solar panels

We can fit any make. On homes we always use all-black panels, which sit neater on the roof. They're sized to your roof and how much electricity you use, and your quote names the exact make, model and warranty.

Controls

Hybrid inverter

Turns the panels' DC into the AC your house runs on, and decides when to charge the battery. Usually goes in the garage, the utility room or on an outside wall.

Stores

Battery

Holds the solar you don't use during the day so you can use it in the evening. It can also charge on a cheap overnight tariff in winter.

Inverters, batteries and chargers we fit

We fit kit from four makers: EcoFlow, Sigenergy, Fox ESS and Hinen. At the survey we'll tell you which one suits your house, your roof and how you use electricity.

EcoFlow

Neat, modern systems with 15-year warranties. Batteries stack on top of each other, so adding more later is easy.

  • IP65 rated, so it can go outside
  • 15-year warranty
EcoFlow OCEAN 2 inverter with three stacked battery modules against a stone wall

Inverter and battery

EcoFlow OCEAN 2

EcoFlow's newer system. Same idea as PowerOcean, with a lot more room to add batteries.

  • 15-year warranty
EcoFlow PowerPulse 2 EV charger with its cable coiled, fitted on a brick wall beside a garage

EV charger

EcoFlow PowerPulse 2

A home car charger that can top your car up from spare solar, instead of sending it to the grid.

  • 13.68kWh usable per battery module
  • Up to six modules, added later without replacing any
  • Battery heating for cold garages and outside walls
  • IP65 rated, indoors or outside
  • 12-year warranty

Elly wanted cheaper energy, with prices going the way they are, and a more efficient home. The family's hot tub is important to them, so a big part of the brief was offsetting what it costs to run.

We fitted ten 460W JA Solar panels with a 5kW EcoFlow inverter and 10kWh of battery storage. The hot tub can run on solar through the day, and the battery covers the evening instead of the grid.

FAQs

Questions people ask

Is there VAT on solar panels and batteries?

Not at the moment. Solar panels and batteries fitted to homes are zero-rated for VAT until 31 March 2027, and that includes a battery fitted on its own. After that date the 0% rate is due to end, so if you're planning it anyway, it makes sense to do it before then.

Can I have a battery without solar panels?

Yes. Many energy suppliers offer tariffs with a cheaper rate overnight. The battery charges up during those hours and powers your home through the day and evening, when electricity costs more. We'll look at how you use electricity and tell you honestly whether the savings make it worth it.

Do I need planning permission?

Usually not. Solar panels on a house roof normally count as permitted development. Listed buildings, flats and some conservation areas have different rules, and we check this at the survey.

Does the electricity network need to know?

Yes. Your network operator (the DNO, which is Northern Powergrid for most of Yorkshire) has to be told about anything that connects to the grid. Smaller systems are notified after install under G98. Larger systems need approval before they're switched on, under G99. We fill in the forms either way.

How long does it take?

The install itself is usually one to two days once the scaffold is up. Before that there's the survey, the quote and the grid paperwork. If your system needs approval from the network first, that adds time, and we'll tell you how long when we quote.

Does solar work in Yorkshire?

Yes. Panels run on daylight, so they still generate on cloudy days, just less. Most of your generation comes between spring and autumn, and winter output is low. Your quote shows the estimate month by month so there are no surprises.

Do I need a battery?

No, but most people get more out of their panels with one. Without a battery, any solar you don't use straight away goes to the grid. A battery keeps it for the evening. If the budget's tight, we can fit panels now and add a battery later.

Will a battery keep the power on in a power cut?

Not as standard. For safety, most systems switch off when the grid goes down. If backup power matters to you, we can fit a system that keeps essential circuits running. Mention it at the survey.

Can I get paid for what I export?

Yes. Under the Smart Export Guarantee, energy suppliers pay you for the electricity you send to the grid. To claim, your system needs to be properly certified, and every install we do comes with full certification. Rates vary a lot between suppliers, so it's worth shopping around.

How do you keep your prices fair?

We're a small team with low running costs, and we do the survey, design and install ourselves. That keeps the price down without cutting corners on the kit or the workmanship.

Which areas do you cover?

We're based in Welton, East Yorkshire, and cover East Yorkshire and the wider Yorkshire and Humber area. If you're just outside that, ask anyway.
